Experienced and noted artiste of Bharatnatyam, Teacher, Researcher and Choreographer. Has been trained by prominent gurus in dance, music, choreography and nattuvangam. She hails from a family of renowned artistes - her great-grandfather Kalamandalam Maddalam Vengicheswamy and father Chakyar Koothu K K Rajan. She holds degrees in Commerce, Law, Diploma in choreography from Guru Maya Rao's Natya Institute, a Masters in Philosophy and a doctorate from Department of Philosophy, Mysore University.Her mentor Guru is the eminent Kalaimani Guru Kalyanasundaram. Critics of erudition have given extremely laudatory reviews on her dancing skills and creativity over the years in leading newspapers both nationally and internationally. She has produced thematic productions like Ritu Sringara, Navadarshanam, Hariharaarpanam, Sarpevajivha, Swamiye Saranam, Shaivam, Natyaveda and Tantra-Natya. Her students are taught to conduct training after the Arangetram. Her institution Aatmalaya imparts training in classical dance and music and has a charitable wing Kalachaitanya for propagating arts for lesserprivileged and rural children. She has performed at major dance festivals throughout the country like Konark, Khajuraho, Hampi, Dusserah, Uday Shankar Mahotsav, Leh Ladakh Sindudarshan, Mudra, Nishagandhi, major organizations at Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Raipur, New Delhi, Kolkatta, Lucknow, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Benares, Mysore, Jaipur, tanjavur, coimbatore, pune, trivandrum, madurai, akola, ratnagiri, kolhapur, chidambaram,Goa, etc. and the Rashtrapati Bhavan before the ex-President Dr. Abdul Kalam and Raj Bhavan, Sikkim and many occasions at Raj Bhavan, Bangalore. She cherishes her regular programmes at festivals of various temples, Mutts and conferences of Yoga, Indology and Spiritual meets of world renowned Gurus. She has given performances at the national television of many channels since many years. The ICCR had delegated Padmaja on concert tours as cultural ambassador besides which, she has performed and given lecture demonstrations at Nepal, Singapore, China, UK, Germany, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, USA, Canada, Dubai, Cyprus, Malaysia, Korea, SriLanka, Bhutan and toured many other nations. She has been honoured by the chief pontiffs of spiritual organizations with titles and recognition.

‘Inspired Indian’ ‘Extraordinary citizen of the city’ ‘Kiran Achiever for National Excellence, ‘Bharatakala Shrestha, Nartana Nipuna and Singara Mani’ are some of the titles and awards bestowed upon this noted danseuse, teacher, writer, research scholar and social worker. Disciple of the eminent Guru Kalyanasundaram, great-granddaughter of the legendary Kalamandalam Maddalam Vengichaswamy and daughter of the renowned Chakyar Rajan, Dr. Padmaja has consistently been involved in multiple facets focusing upon dance as a holistic and harmonizing medium with elevated spiritual goals.

She has performed not only at major prestigious festivals across the country but also represented India for delegations through the ICCR and visited cultural centres for concerts, internationally. Critics of erudition have given extremely laudatory reviews on her dancing skills and unique creativity over the years.

Having brought Bharatnatyam close to the lesser privileged in rural areas around the country, Padmaja was honoured by the ex-President, Dr. Abdul Kalam and other Heads of State at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan and various states’ Raj Bhavan. Her maiden book based on her doctorate, ‘ Tantra-The science and Natya-the art’ has received wide acclaim for its esoteric and philosophical study of dance. As the Director of Aatmalaya, Dr.Padmaja imparts training to selected students.
